Not knowing what you are doing is scary. Not knowing what you are doing with your retirement money is really scary. This is not a game we want to treat like gambling. You have to know what you are talking about when you are throwing around tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars.
If you have been following the blog thus far you know I stumbled into the world of investing with a rough start. After buying my first two homes for my family to live in, I had a proven track record of making rookie mistakes and learning the hard way. That is why I decided that education was going to be the first part of my investing strategy.
Before making any serious investments, I wanted to spend a year learning everything I could. Over the next few blogs, I am going to share some of the things I learned and hopefully help boost your knowledge base as well.
As I started listening to podcasts and reading books I found that real estate investing has its own language. Knowing and understanding the terminology is one of the most helpful things a person can study in any niche subject. This is not an exhaustive study. In fact, I am only going to cover what I believe pertains to rental property ownership, flips and private money lending. And, since I am a relatively young investor myself, I have no doubt there are many folks out there that could teach me a thing or two. So here are some of the basic words and phrases that I hear most commonly as I progress down this road. Feel free to print this out or save it as a reference so that it may help you make great investment choices in the future.
